Vehicle Valuation Series: Introduction

How much is your car worth?

When storing clients’ vehicles, we often get inquiries about what they are worth. Sometimes these come from customers looking to sell, and sometimes they come from our insurance company when ascertaining inventory values.

Either way, knowing how to value a car is a valuable skill—especially now, when the cars themselves are worth so much. So, I thought I’d publish a series on how to value all different kinds of cars using several methods. This could help you get more money for your trade, negotiate a better private party deal, or go to bat for yourself on an insurance claim.

To start, it would be helpful to have a car in question to value. We’re going to use the rare, the exotic…HONDA CIVIC.

Honda Civic

Specifically, let’s look at my sister-in-law’s Honda Civic that she’s selling, now that she and my brother Alex have bought a new Subaru for the new baby.

Don’t laugh. While we’re known to store some really, really nice cars, the Civic is a force of nature, with 20 million sold over name plate history and the second best selling car in the USA (2019).

Over the next week or so, I’ll be releasing some bite-sized methods for figuring out how to accurately value the Civic AND in the end I’ll let you know how I did it in the classifieds.

Stay tuned!
