Be Careful When Shipping Your Vehicle

AAAA Auto Storage & Park does a lot of shipping of vehicles and hand-off to customer selected vehicle shippers. Through this experience we have learned a lot about how these shippers work. I wanted to write a quick post about the most important part of selecting a shipper…

My advice to you simply is DO YOUR RESEARCH.

The internet has made it very easy to vet potential shippers. Look for anecdotes about damaged or delayed cars…maybe even stolen cars or parts that have gone missing from shipped cars.

Usually a good rule of thumb is to contract with someone who only lets tried and true operators bid on your car.

The way this industry works is your ‘job’ will be taken by a broker. This broker will bid it out to whomever he chooses. Once the bids come in, usually the lowest compatible bid will be selected (to increase the margin that the broker makes) and that operator will come to get your car. Sometimes that operator will sell the opportunity to another trucker. The trick is to make sure that isn’t happening or is under tight control of the broker.

Ask these question up front and you should be in good shape to get your car to your destination!
